We are looking for talented & motivated team members who share our enthusiasm for biomolecular dynamics at the nanoscale. 

For PhD students, we have three opportunities open since July, 2025:

• PhD Position in Single-Molecule Biophysics using Nanopore Trapping; deadline: September 20th, 2025.
• PhD Position in Single-Molecule Biophysics using Fluorescence & DyeCycling/FRET; deadline: September 30th, 2025.
• PhD Position in Protein Structural Biology and Biophysics: Structure–Dynamics–Function Relationship of the Chaperone Hsp90; open until filled.

MSc thesis projects are available for local students from Basel, while we do occasionally host excellent students from other universities (no salaries are paid).

• Single-molecule kinetics extracted from FRET traces (computational comparison plus experiments)
• DyeCycling to overcome photo-bleaching in single-molecule FRET (e.g. reversible binder evaluation, fluorogenic probes, nanophotonics)
• Nanopore sensing of CRISPR second messengers
• Label-free protein trapping using nanopores
